Object Pronouns in English Grammar + Examples

When speaking English many students find it at the very beginning a bit difficult to distinguish between subject and object pronouns but after a while, they get on with it easily as possible due to being Widespread and ubiquity of English language, and soon the problem is solved.

Before we introduce the object pronouns let’s have an example to see a simple usage of object pronouns then we scrutinize them thoroughly as possible.

Object Pronouns English Grammar

Look at the example below:

I like my best friend John a lot, he always confides in me and tells me his secrets. (not confides in I and tells I)

As you see the usage of the pronoun “I” here is absolutely wrong because it is the object of the sentence and no longer the performer or doer.

Object Pronouns English Usage

Same as any other pronouns, we usage object pronouns to avoid repetition and as we mentioned above we use object pronouns to talk about object, the recipient of action or motion, and verb not subject:

He threatened me and I told him that I am not afraid.

I showed them the letter and they were just shocked.

Subject V.S Object Pronouns

Just a very important point to remember here do not confuse some of the pronouns because they have the same form like it and you in either subject and object pronouns:

They told me to post the letter right away but I neglected it (object). It (subject) was a very urgent letter for them.
